The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), also referred to as the “jaw joint,” is the hinge that connects your lower jaw and assists in opening and closing your mouth. This joint is often the source of discomfort and chronic pain referred to as TMD.
Common Causes Include:

- Grinding Or Clenching Of Teeth
- Dislocation Of The Disc Between The Ball And Socket

If you are experiencing pain associated with your TMJ, we recommend visiting our office for an evaluation, but over-the-counter pain relievers and a cold compress can provide temporary relief in the meantime. For serious cases of TMD, Dr. Swanson will suggest alternate treatments, ranging from mouthguards to orthodontic care to relieve TMD symptoms. For extremely severe cases, we might recommend more invasive procedures.
