Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign®

Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign

We’ve all probably heard the term Invisalign, but how familiar are you with what it is, how it works, and its benefits? Don’t worry, the experts at Southpoint Quality Dental are here to explain everything you need to know about Invisalign® to see if it is the right fit for you! Southpoint Quality Dental offers Invisalign® as a top solution for patients seeking a straighter smile with a more discreet option than braces. Keep reading to learn more about Invisalign.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an alternative to traditional braces’ metal brackets and wires. Wearing a series of customized aligners can effectively straighten your teeth, just like with braces! The aligners are translucent and decently undetectable, so people can hardly tell you are wearing them. Each custom-made aligner is designed to fit each patient’s unique dental structure and address the specific needs of each patient’s teeth. Multiple aligners are worn for a designated amount of time and replaced with a new one so your teeth will gradually move daily.

Benefits of Choosing Invisalign®

Invisalign® offers many significant benefits:

  • Comfort and convenience: Removable aligners make eating, drinking, and maintaining oral hygiene easier. They are incredibly comfortable to wear and don’t hinder talking.
  • Aesthetic appeal: clear aligners are nearly invisible, so hardly anyone will be able to tell you are wearing them.
  • Fewer dental visits and more convenience: Compared to traditional braces, you will have fewer visits to the dentist, and each aligner is worn for about two weeks and only removed to eat, brush, and floss.
  • Shorter treatment time: Compared to traditional metal braces, Invisalign® offers a shorter treatment time of 6-15 months.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process at Southpoint Quality Dental

At Southpoint Quality Dental, our Invisalign® process is done in four simple steps:

Step 1: Once our professionals have determined that Invisalign® is suitable for you, we will send the lab specific instructions for making the aligners.

Step 2: Using advanced computer technology, the instructions are translated into a sequence of finely calibrated aligners. The 3-D computer graphics technology makes anywhere from 12 to 48 aligners that are ready to wear.

Step 3: Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and is only removed to eat, brush, and floss. After the two weeks are up, you move on to the next aligner and repeat the process, and your teeth will begin to move gradually every day.

Step 4: Once you have worn each aligner for the prescribed duration, you will achieve the desired position through gradual, incremental adjustments over time.

Who is a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® can correct various dental issues, both for aesthetic and practical reasons. It can help with overbites, underbites, crowded teeth, and more. It’s important to note that Invisalign® may not be suitable for complex cases, and a consultation can help determine if it’s the right choice for you. Dr. Swanson and his team can evaluate individual cases to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.
