About Teeth

Early Orthodontic Treatment

Many people do not realize that oral hygiene is important from the time a baby’s first tooth appears. Remembering to care for your teeth daily and to get regular check-ups with Dr. Swanson will keep your teeth and healthy and beautiful for a lifetime of smiles.

Tooth Development And Care

Primary teeth, often called baby teeth, appear when a baby is between 6 and 8 months old and are complete by the time a child is 3 years old.  Primary teeth begin to fall out and be replaced by permanent teeth around age 6.

Tooth Development and Care - Smiling Boy

With the right care, your permanent teeth will serve you throughout your life:

These teeth will usually come in by age 17, but for some people, wisdom teeth will appear only later. Many people have wisdom teeth removed due to crowding.

Whether or not a mouth has just a few primary teeth or a full set of permanent and wisdom teeth, daily brushing and flossing is vital. Some people think that primary teeth or wisdom teeth do not need attention since they are temporary or will be removed, but the truth is that caring for teeth daily and visiting a dentist regularly is important for your appearance and the health of your mouth.
